Hey everyone, how’s it going?

Heading over to the last month of 2021, I thought it would be nice to talk about such an important issue many devs in our community face: burnouts. My definition of burnout is the feeling of extreme stress and pressure causing me to lose all motivation, lack focus, and just feel exhausted. This is a result of overwork, poor stress management, and unhealthy behaviors.

I had breakfast with another developer the other day and we spoke about how burnout seems to be a recurring cycle in the software development field. Many of us are passionate about programming and like to do it even in our free time. It also can be mentally intensive work and thus mentally draining. Then there is start-up culture, high-pressure work environments, the stress of getting stuck on a problem or bug, and even anxiety from having to interact with other people for so many of us who are introverts. All of these things can contribute to the state of burnout.

Here is an older video I did about burnout a few years ago where I talk about my thoughts and give some advice from my experiences: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7gAGihopUQ

This is an article that I wrote when I became very burned out from a toxic work environment: https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/choosing-a-developer-job-some-advice-a64c60b795a4/

I also have another video on mental health here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Tv_GAVKybM

I actually have quite a few more thoughts about burnout now, but I want to know: would you like me to do an updated video on developer burnout or another mental health topic? Let me know over in my Discord chat: https://discord.gg/XVteC9J

By the way, I will be streaming Python on Twitch tomorrow morning :)
I'm planning on 8 am EST, but join my Discord to get notified.

If you want more Vue.js content, it is coming up next week.

Hope you all have a great week!
